After answering your questions about how deaf people drive we did some trivia questions about the topic. While also adding our own opinion on the matter, like how I can read each other's signs in our peripheral vision. You don't need to directly look at someone's hands to read sign language. Hope this was informative!

Idk why but Ryan's face when he's thinking is so hilarious
Lmfao I though Ryan was flipping off the company that didn't hire deaf people before I realized you guys were censoring the answer to the question. 🤣
SAME LOL
Samee😂😂
Same, I thought he was swearing 😂
Me too 🤣

When Ellen said "close enough" and Ryan said "I corrected your grammer", that look on her face 😂 ♡
Taliah we all have that look. 😂
MissMargaret | Yea but when she paused it was funny XD
Omg they liked my comment! Tysm! ♡
I love that you teach the RUclips community that disabled and/or deaf people live their lives almost the same way we do. They have all the rights we do and do not fall short of any ability but their disability. Love you guys! Best RUclips channel I have seen! Cutest couple ever!
Kaleb Myers I agree
NINE YEARS!!! Get married already and give us a few baby Duo's. I'll buy some merch if you do. :-)
sad how people assume just because their deaf, they can’t do certain things.
How is that sad? That's like saying it's sad that people assume blind people can't drive
The Funny Wonk “i agree strongly!”
It’s not sad. It’s genuine curiosity.
Tacticalz exactly , we dont know everything from the deaf culture, so its logic if we have questions
@@raka7304 it's because that's people's natural reaction to a disability. That's why it's sad. People naturally assume that just because someone's deaf, or they rely on a wheelchair (or whatever disability they have) they can't do what a "normal person" can do. They immediately think that that disability holds them back from regular life, but that's not true. Sure, it changes the way people live, or communicate, but it's not the end of the world if they are disabled in some way. That's how most people think, and it's been that way for a long, long time, and it probably won't ever change. That's why it's sad.
Ryan is such a cool guy answering all of these questions and even thoe he seems bothered by some he's never mad or upset he'd much rather just make sure people are well informed 🙌🏻
You got that exactly right Jimmy! Thank you for the support.
@@SignDuoChannel thank you! Much love from Puerto Rico 😊
When Ryan pats his back cause he knows he's a Great driver lol
hahaha
LOL
Ryan: I like cupcakes
Ellen: No, say something really weird
Ryan:....
Ryan: I like ribs

lol its hard to do that
java on bed
I absolutely love all of your videos you have actually helped me with my ASL to talk to my cousin and I love the fact that no matter what the world has in store for you you still stand to be the amazing people who you are today no matter what
Thank you and thanks for learning ASL for your cousin!
I've never been this early... just in case yall see this comment I just want to say thank you!
Ive been deaf in both ears since birth but I have cochlear implants. I started watching your videos a few months ago and now I'm trying to learn sign language! Eventually, I want to see if I can go a few days without my implants and use ASL to see how different my life could've been...
I love you guys!
Also, I dont know exactly what Ryan said at 4:30 but I think he was saying to comment what we think the answer is... I say B
Their is a caption option if you don't know what he said. I just realized it's a good thing for these videos. 😊
Nettie Spaghetti thank you! that’s so great you’re taking up ASL!
@@mollygriffinfinder8914 I was watching the video within 15 minutes of it being posted and so the caption option wasn't there yet... thanks though!!
When you mentioned fighting, it reminded me of a situation iin my past - I am a hearing person and used to have some deaf friends (have since moved and lost contact 🙁). In the friendship group, there was an older deaf couple who had been married for many years. They were very open with helping me learn more about deaf culture, particularly about their own experiences. I asked if when they fight, do they sign faster the more angrier they are, in the way that hearing people tend to yell louder. The husband answered (signed) that when they fight he closes his eyes so he doesn't have to 'listen' to his wifes arguments, hahaha. Something I hadn't thought of! 🤣
That's awesome Taisla! Lol I do that sometimes, and even Ellen does it sometimes 😂 if you would like to hear our perspective, we answer that question in one of our videos: ruclips.net/video/Fxwab6mUv-Y/видео.html
Never stop making videos please!! I've been studying ASL since few months and I really like watching your videos, you are funny and so authentic!
Baci dall'Italia
Thank you for this video!! I had a few questions and apprehensions about Deaf drivers when I was first exposed to the Deaf community years ago. Research took away all my concerns, but there are definitely a lot of people who judge first and ask questions never. Thank you for providing helpful insight while also remaining so kind and funny! You two really are helping make a difference 😊
Hey, a question - are there jokes that work only in sign language? You know, like all the word-jokes in various languages that don't make sense when translated... I'm wondering if there are any of those in ASL... and if you can share some :D
Pasteurised milk (milking sign past your eyes)
More of a pun, but a joke nonetheless
That's crazy someone asked this because I was going to ask the same, about "inside" ASL jokes, like that pun!
I've seen ASL jokes/stories that have the signed letter of the alphabet as you tell the story to demonstrate the movement. I'm not sure if that makes sense, but check out ABC Story (ASL) on RUclips and you'll see what I mean. It's cool!
ruclips.net/video/5a3mFrRaPO0/видео.html
This is my favorite joke in sign language, one may be able to make sense of it with the captions (because his facial expression is so good), but the punch line relies on a sign in it. If you look up “sign language jokes” on google you can find some really funny ones.
You guys are so cute together!! I love your channel and the fact that you help open up in the community some people refuse/choose not to.
I’m deaf, and it was hard to learn sign language at first. But now it seems so easy. And the same thing happened to me to what happened in one of your videos. My drive thru order got thrown out.
I want the sign duo hoodie that Ellen is wearing so bad! 🥺💛 love your guys. Thank you for being so genuine & so cool.
Thank you so much! The hoodies are available if you want one. [ www.signduo.com ]
I don't know why my little daughter Ohana (2 yrs) follow your sign language and so happy after following you sing language 😁 I'm so happy for that and that's makes me want learning sign language too 😁 Love from Indonesia for both of you Guys😘
That is awesome! :D
@@SignDuoChannel Thank you hope both of you always healty in Covid 19... please stay at home, drink water and sleep well (Sorry if my english bad but I'm trying my best 😂 and Love from INDONESIA)
This is SO relatable! My husband of 10 years is deaf and he is the one drives any given time we’re together. He’s a far more safe driver than I (I have been in 3 accidents 😬, two totally NOT my fault). Shared this video with my hubby.
Hey Sign Duo! My 7yo nephew is Deaf, signs really well, but is having a hard time learning how to read. He has a super supportive mom who is hearing but she’s a bit stuck on how to help him progress. Do you have any tips or resources you could point us to? I really appreciate all of the work you both put into this channel-I am learning a ton from it! Thank you! -Jas
I'm so glad I took two years of ASL in Highschool.
And I was fortunate enough that I learned a LOT about the language AND the culture from my first teacher, but my second teacher was PROFOUNDLY deaf
So it was a huge hurddle that I'm glad I was able to overcome with his help
I learned so much, and he even gave me a sign name
I really enjoy watching your guys' videos, they're amazing!
That's so cool you had that experience with him. That's truly the best way to learn! Thank you for the compliment :D
Understandable. Everything in this video is well said. After watching part one, I am still confused why so many people would think and still think that the deaf and hard of hearing community couldn't or can't drive. It never even crossed my mind. You guys are wonderful and I wish I could sign it to you in person.
Glad you thought the video had some good points! Thanks for the support
I love your relationship with each other! I’m working on getting my degree in interpreting, and I can’t wait till I can communicate fluently in sign, and your videos are always so helpful to watch
You got this!
Hi Ryan & Ellen!! Y’all are so amazing and so humble. Please stay safe and healthy
Thank you! We will, and I hope you are safe and healthy too
As a new follower, i am AMAZED at you both! Your bond that you have with each other is incredible!
I used to teach Deaf kids in a mainstreamed school. I was pretty proficient at ASL. One day, I drove one of my student home and he wouldn’t stop talking the whole way. I was sure I was going to crash the car. If you’re not REALLY comfortable with it, don’t sign and drive, hearing peeps! Safety first! Thanks for posting this, guys!!
I have a question: Do you (Ellen) ever find it difficult to communicate with Ryan's deaf friends who don't necessarily always understand English word order? Does Ryan have to interpret for you? English word order to ASL?
This seems unlikely, as all deaf people in the U.S. have to learn English at least to read it. People who grow up using ASL actually grow up essentially bilingual. It might be different for someone from Bolivia for example, since Bolivian Sign Language is practically the same language as ASL, but the person would grow up learning to read Spanish (and maybe Quechua?) but not necessarily English.
From my experience, even if someone doesn't understand english/english word order, they'll still get the general idea of what you're saying if you're using asl signs. It'd be like if you spoke french but in english word order. It'd sound really weird to them, but in an informal-environment it can be understood. Besides, I have yet to meet a deaf person (who uses asl as their main communication) who doesn't also understand/use pse.
@@kyihsin2917 Omg I never or rarely see my country mentioned specially about BSL, are you from here?😂 That’s cool you mentioned it either way!
I've been in numerous wreaks most of my life and all of them were hearing people. So I agree that Ryan is a safe driver. Oh and I'm learning sign language so it's neat to watch you guys sign.
i love how you show your life and what you do as a deaf person. jus subscribed. i know 3 “signs” like more, please, and thank you. since i watch kids and he isnt talking yet. Love your channel and because of you im going to learn more asl
I saw a video of you guys at McDonalds on Facebook where they completely ignore him at the drive thru and I was pissed, literally.... came here to learn more and then I watched part 1 of this video and then this one and I just find it so cool that, you know, Ryan IS a functional human and his deafness doesn’t really define him regarding daily stuff, LIKE DRIVING lmao when I saw the comments saying “how can you drive, you’re deaf??!?!” I laughed😂 I mean, even I, a hearing person, know that you depend much more on your eyes than on your ears..... and plus I just find the connection between you too so cute, the fact that you can understand each other almost perfectly without signing or just with the peripheral vision..... anyway... thanks for teaching me some cool things about sign language and deaf people!!!
I know this isn’t much but y’all are the reason why I learned sign language because we have customers that come In where I work and ask for simple things and majority of the people I work with do not understand sign language and I’ve been able to help people with their meals and orders. Y’all keep up the amazing work, I love watching you videos❤️❤️❤️
That's awesome Connor! 😄
It's has been two days now from when I discovered this channel and I love all your contents, I'm learning a lot about the deaf community and your relationship😍
You guys are really couple goals✨
Hey I don't know if you will see this, but you have really helped me learn more sign language by writing the captions. I started learning sign language about 5 to 6 years ago just so I can talk to a deaf person that goes to my church. I have been wanting to become a sign language interpreter and want to improve by sign language before then, and when I watch your videos, I just look at what is being said and signed and look for patterns to learn. I thank you so much!
I have 2 regular deaf customers that come to my Starbucks store, and 1 comes through the drive through, and I willingly take their order, even if nobody else wants to take their make the order, and if anyone is borrowed from another store, I'm more than glad to inform them about the deaf customers, and when they come, I am the interpreter/or the one taking their order. And it's always the highlight of my day to be able to talk to them. They are very nice.
That's very cool! I'm glad our videos help you.
@@SignDuoChannel You replied to me 🤩🤩 thank you!!!!
My opinion is that using the sign language gives more advantage like during an exam....and if two ppl are kidnapped and they are trying to escape without making noise, they can use sign instead
that's wrong lol I've seen my deaf friends get busted for signing while taking exams. They both got F's 😬
@@SignDuoChannel well me and my friends know a little sign....so far we have been successfull....but don't worry we won't do again 😬
This is so cool and so useful to understand driving as a deaf person and also driving with a deaf person! All of the videos that you make really help my understanding of deaf culture a little more and help with my signing as well. I'm learning British Sign Language at Level 1 at the moment and even though ASL is different many of the principles are the same like looking at the eyes and lips instead of focusing purely on the hands. Really love you guys and your videos!
As a kid, I read a book with a deaf character whose brother said she wasn't supposed to be driving but was practicing with their dad anyway. Because of that, I grew up figuring the law probably didn't allow deaf drivers. I look back now and think (1) wow, a book can have a lot of power, and therefore an author can accidentally do a lot of damage with one ignorant line; and (2) maybe I misread it in the first place and her brother just meant she was still too young to drive!
I guess my point with that is sometimes people don't just make a silly assumption; sometimes they're misinformed. Thank you for your efforts to educate us.
Also thank you for your videos in general. I've been following you here for a couple years now and am always glad to see you post. :)
I grew up with Dutch sign language and I've been using your vids to learn ASL. I can finally watch without the subs on! I think it's a shame that there are no language sign language classes. Everything is always intended for people who are learning their fírst sign language (and for hearing people).
Keep making great stuff guys, stay safe!!
I sure hope that someday I can have a friend who is deaf. I am learning online a little bit but I am always busy cleaning and helping out my brother and my family to. congrats on being together for 9 years.
You can do it! Thank you!
I have had a couple def uber drivers it was really cool how the app enabled communications with rider and driver. I can honestly say both were great drivers and navigated directions perfectly. 5 star rating and a tip!
I love you guys so much! This is my fav channel to watch atm! You guys make me want to learn sign language, but I wouldn’t even know where to start! Xx keep being inspirational ❤️
I love you guys so much, honestly. You are my favorite couple on RUclips!!
2:33 in the morning here in england and im here binge watching your videos😂, love them.

Hello Sign Duo! First, I just want to say I love watching your videos:) you both are so open and kind to each other and to those who ask you questions. That really inspires me. I do have 2 questions.
1) I hope this is okay to ask, but if you pray, do you sign or use your “inner voice” ?
2) do you know the history of how some signs came to be? For example, the sign for never is like ending with a cliff. Why is that?
Also, I really admire how you do not want others to bad mouth those who are ignorant or discriminate you, like the drive thru. Very admirable and encouraging. Thank you for your channel!
I love how you guys can read each other’s energy, body’s language, and lips not just signs like y’all so connected... that’s awesome
You guys inspire me to do ASL to understand deaf and people who don't speak. I love your guy's videos! ❤ P.S. I've always been fascinated to do ASL!
I love that you make different contents, but always keeping it funny, informative and enjoiable. It seems that Ellen enjoys a lot to making videos 💕 greetings from Argentina 💕
Hi, I’m from Mexico and I love your channel ❤️❤️❤️ because you help me to learn English and ALS at the same time ❤️❤️❤️❤️
your videos are always so insightful!! i love you guys
Thank you so much!!
Those are actually some pretty good tips for being a passenger for a Deaf driver: don't try to talk while they're turning and hold out my hands out in front instead of like signing up next to my chest like I normally do. 👍
Thank you! 💜
Hey Signing Duo! I am currently learning ASL, and I found your channel and this has helped me so much with grammar structure, and other signs. I’ve been learning since about the beginning of March. I have thought a lot about quitting because it was really hard to learn all parameters, grammar, etc. But, watching you guys inspired me to keep going! I love you guys so much!! Thank you!!
We're so happy to help! you should keep going! take your time, there's no rush 😃
I love how Ryan was pretending to think about the question right after he said he already knew the answer
I recently just found your channel, and im so glad that I did :)
Welcome to the fam!
I have a passion for ASL and your videos help me learn more, thank you! I would love to see some videos about Ryan's experiences growing up in a hearing family, His parents reaction and adjustment to learning ASL after finding out he was deaf , and Ellen's family's experience with trying to communicate with Ryan. I hope that's not too personal of a request or anything. Happy Friday:)
i just watched the zodiac video and if you’re curious to see more of your compatibility looking into the venus moon and mars aspects of your birth and synastry gives insight, i don’t follow vlogs anymore but seeing how you guys communicate is really cool to me and a learning experience too showing me a perspective of a daily life i didn’t know of so thank you for that
Good luck telling any other woman to wait until you get home to argue 😁 I'll admit I looked it up if it was legal for a deaf person to drive.. but never assumed or suggested you shouldn't. But now I'm educated on this subject, thanks.
Very good point, when I would ride in the car with my deaf friend Billy, I would sign less at my face, and more in the open space between us. I would use both hands and exaggerate the motions so he did not need to look at me to understand. We spent hours driving and signing. No worries.
I'm hearing and I sign.
“I correct your grammar” idk why that was so funny to me haha
If anything you are so much more alert than any hearing person distracted by loud music(when they can't hear the street noise anyways) or especially their PHONES! When music is very loud sometimes I miss honking anyways so I learnt not to have my music too loud.
Very informative video. I’ve always been curious how deaf people drive but have never asked for fear of offending. But now I know...
Glad it was helpful Brian! We are here to help :)
I read his lips even before gave his answer for number one 😊
But I won’t tell…
Love your content!
I have been RELIGIOUSLY watching you guys so cute
I’m Australian and I’m sure it’s not us who didn’t allow driving. Australia is very accessible. 😊🇦🇺 Our Sign language is called Auslan. (“Aus” short forAustralia, “lan”, language. It’s a portmanteau of Australian Sign Language. I suppose the “S” is shared. We like using slang and shortening our words as much as possible. It very Australian. Fun Aussie fact: What you would call shades we call sunnies, and our emus are bullet-proof. But we don’t have guns anyway. New to your channel and loving it. Thanks. Xo
I got this notification while taking drivers Ed haha great video
What a coincidence! lol
I'm Egyptian and i never realised that, it's really sad, i'll spread awareness about this and hopefully this will change this soon!
hi, i'm deaf in France so at the time the law for the deaf driver compulsory the 3 mirrors that is to say left, right and interior now it's over! All the best.

I took up ASL many, many years ago and I also volunteered with a center for the Deaf. One thing I always struggled with involved situations in which I encountered a hearing person while I was with a deaf person. I never knew if I should sign everything being said between me and the hearing person, since what we were discussing was in the presence of all three people. Is it just a personal preference or is there an established etiquette? (I'm not sure why I never asked back then.🤷)
Thank you both so very much for sharing your journey. My life's path took me along a different route, and I've sadly lost touch with the community. Your videos bring back so much of what I've forgotten. 💛
Kelly this is a great question and this happens to all deaf folk. I would suggest asking the deaf person "do you want me to interpret?" or something like that so the decision falls onto the deaf person. Some deaf people would rather not have an interpreter and that's perfectly fine too :)
Im pretty sure when they blurred his hand it was cuss words wich is just the funniest thing I seen all day💯🤣😂👌🏽

Hey guys! Love watching your videos. I've been studying sign for about two years now. I take classes for it in college and I'm in ASL groups where we go voices off twice a week and meet up. I love watching your videos! Helps me get in some good practice of watching others sign as well as get to learn a few things along the way. Thanks for being awesome!

I wonder what his voice is like if he used his vocals. 🤔😊
When she said “and safer too” that reminded me of an episode of good luck Charlie when Gabe was doing a commercial for super adventure land and that was his last line of the commercial. Ik I can’t be the only one
It would be cool if you guys make polls when you do videos like this, that way you can have the question pop up and we could answer from the different options you give us

I just came from the pet peeves video from a few years ago but thought i would comment here for a higher chance of it being seen. You should get Ryan something that measures sound around him for when he is working on the car at night, so that he has more awareness of how loud he is being and wont wake the neighbours (if he pays attention to it)
my grandpa was a great driver, he would drive my brother and cousins and i around from to tennis camp or pick my brother and i up from school
when i got a bit older i got a cell phone for in case of emergency reasons but that's about it
aww that's so sweet! any grandpa driving story is always sweet! lol
I would love if you could teach us some basic sign language. I think it's really important for everyone to have some basic knowledge. Schools should teach us too!
You guys need to come to Rochester NY some time. Huge deaf community here about 90,000.
maybe someday! 😁
Out of curiosity, I've learned there are different sects of the deaf community when it comes to signing. Those who use Signed English, Pigeon Signed English, and American Sign language and that each have their own grammar rules. What are your experiences with these styles and which one do you prefer/think is more appropriate?
"I thought that was weird?" 😂😂😂
"Just wait until we get to where we need to be if you wanna fight!" 😜😂🥰 Love you guys!
You guys inspired me to learn ASL
I'm a big fan of you (and Java)
Once I saw a car driving crazily down the road with its flashers on and when it got close I could see the driver was signing to the passenger with both hands and was not looking at the road at all. It felt super dangerous.
some people just don't care :( they are very very rare though.
Ryan will you talk more about driving a manual vehicle versus driving an automatic and can you give us some tips on how to better utilize our field of vision. Loved the video
I’m still hoping that Ryan will talk to us about some of the different devices he uses because he stuff such as alarms to wake him up or if he uses the device that when someone rings the doorbell the lamp flashes or other things
