Pretty sure this is already covered in other lists. Either way, only one source, arbitrary cutoff. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 02:59, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - per WP:LISTPEOPLE; the requirement is that the membership in the list itself constitues notability. Because this is arbitrary as TenPoundHammer above says, membership cannot be notable. There is no notability attached to an arbitrary grouping. Cheers! -- Lord Roem (talk) 05:24, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep I haven't a clue what the above says. The list meets every requirement for a Wikipedia list and exists in other forms on other reliable media. Every list of rankings has an arbitrary cutoff, why a top ten, why not top 13. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 06:45, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep an overview of the most successful directors of all time is indeed encyclopedic material. I agree it's somewhat troubling that there's only one source, but in this case the source is a pretty solidly reliable one for this type of information. - Comment. I find this kind of topic interesting although it definitely needs expansion. When so it can be a as decent a list a List of highest grossing films. Which mainly uses Box Office Mojo as it's source as well. So I am going for keep. − Jhenderson 777 18:35, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep—Membership in this list is clearly notable. Individuals probably should be included based on whether they were the highest grossing at some particular point in time, rather than a top five based upon the present status. Could also include the highest grossing by nation.—RJH (talk) 19:00, 30 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Comment. If this is kept it needs to be renamed - from the title I was expecting to see a list of company directors with the highest gross earnings. It seems to be a very common thing among creators of articles about the movie industry to ignore the fact that this is a general encyclopedia, so the context of that industry can't be assumed. If I see one more reference to "animated shorts", which conjures up a frankly obscene image, I'll scream. Phil Bridger (talk) 20:58, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Would you consider "List of highest-grossing film directors" to be an appropriate new name? YardsGreen (talk) 11:23, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep The cutoff is arbitrary, but I see that as a reason to expand, rather than delete, the article. I agree with RJHall that membership in this list is notable, but I also agree with Phil Bridger that the article could stand to be renamed. YardsGreen (talk) 11:23, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
